More Behind the Scene Pics From Mysteries of Cove

Shadow Mountain released some behind the scenes photos of the filming of the book trailer for J. Scott Savage's new steampunk book, Mysteries of Cove. Doesn't it look fantastic? (My son and I are on the back row). (And you can see the entire album on the Shadow Mountain Facebook page, by the way.)

It was so fun to be there with some great people and really experience acting on a green screen. It's not as easy as it first appears! Something we will never forget for sure.

Yeah, so it will undoubtedly be an awesome trailer, (I'm in it so that's a given, right? Haha) but you've seriously got to read this book. It's definitely something your whole family will enjoy.  (And don't worry, I will share the trailer with you as soon as it's out!)

Here's the back copy:

Trenton Colman is a creative thirteen-year-old boy with a knack for all things mechanical. But his talents are viewed with suspicion in Cove, a steam-powered city built inside a mountain. In Cove, creativity is a crime and invention is a curse word.

Kallista Babbage is a repair technician and daughter of the notorious Leo Babbage, whose father died in an explosion an event the leaders of Cove point to as an example of the danger of creativity.

Working together, Trenton and Kallista learn that Leo Babbage was developing a secret project before he perished. Following clues he left behind, they begin to assemble a strange machine that is unlikely anything they ve ever seen before. They soon discover that what they are building may threaten every truth their city is founded on and quite possibly their very lives.

Writer Goal Wednesday

photo credit: plnaugle via photopin cc

I have been working like crazy on my novella this week and got ten pages done and the first chapter edited. I'm starting to really buckle down and want to have the novella done by this weekend.  I love how it's shaping up and the scenes are really starting to flow onto the paper. It's exciting for me!

So, that's my goal for this week, to finish my novella! It's a big one, but deadlines are looming.  And I already have the next project mapped out, so I need to get my butt in the chair and get writing. (Especially on days like today when the kids are busy and gone and I have uninterrupted writing time!)

How did you do on your goals this week?

Book Review and Giveaway!

Stick in the Mud meets spontaneity

I am so happy to be part of the blog tour for Rachael Anderson's new book, Stick in the Mud Meets Spontaneity. I really enjoyed her book Rough Around the Edges Meets Refinement and this romance is is the same vein.

In Stick in the Mud, we meet Colton, a cowboy who loves what he does. What you see is what you get and he is as steady as they come.  He's also giving eleven-year-old Kasja horse-riding lessons (you might remember Kasja from the previous book) and when he meets Kasja's aunt Sam, he's intrigued by her approach to life. She drives a sunshine yellow bug, has a lime green fuzzy steering wheel cover and a summer bucket list that includes riding a bull and having a fling with a cowboy. They are definitely opposites!  At one point in the book, they are compared to a tree with roots (Colton) and the wind in the tree branches (Sam). It's pretty accurate!

Of course they have an attraction to each other, but it's complicated.  Sam has a job offer in New York for her dream job. She's only home for the summer (hence the summer fling thing). But when things heat up between her and Colton, could she give up her dreams for a possibly forever relationship? Or will he just be a fun summer memory? Could Colton give up his staid way of living to meet her halfway? I really enjoyed reading to find out.

I thought the author did a great job of building the relationship between the two characters. They felt realistic and I loved the ending. A great afternoon read! (Be sure to scroll all the way down to enter the giveaway!)

Here's the back copy:

Home from college for the summer, Samantha Kinsey steps into her role as nanny for her two favorite little charges. But when she finds herself playing chauffeur more than playmate, her summer outlook quickly turns from fun to bleak. That is, until she drives the girls to a family-owned ranch and meets Colten McCoy—a genuine, hard-working cowboy, who's as set in his ways as he is handsome. Although he claims he doesn't need any fun in his life, Sam’s determined to help him find it. But she'll soon discover that cowboys are about as easy to train as wild mustangs. Stick in the Mud Meets Spontaneity is about an adaptable girl and a not so adaptable guy. It’s about learning to accept people for who they are and realizing that sometimes who they are is exactly who they should be.

Today's Freebie Friday is an awesome book that your middle school child will love---and you, too! It's the first in the Far World series, Water Keep.  It's witty and fun and J. Scott Savage has created a story that will keep your family completely entertained. We really enjoyed it. Click here to download your free Kindle copy!

Here's the back copy:

Other people may see thirteen-year-old Marcus Kanenas as an outcast and a nobody, but he sees himself as a survivor and a dreamer. In fact, his favorite dream is of a world far away, a world where magic is as common as air, where animals tell jokes and trees beg people to pick their fruit. He even has a name for this place — Farworld.

When Marcus magically travels to Farworld, he meets Kyja, a girl without magic in a world where spells, charms, and potions are everywhere, and Master Therapass, a master wizard who has kept a secret hidden for thirteen years, a secret that could change the fate of two worlds.

But the Dark Circle has learned of Master Therapass's secret and their evil influence and power are growing. Farworld's only hope is for Marcus and Kyja to find the mythical Elementals —water, land, air and fire —and convince them to open a drift between the worlds.

As Kyja and Marcus travel to Water Keep, they must face the worst the evil Dark Circle can throw at them —Summoners, who can command the living and the dead; Unmakers, invisible creatures that can destroy both body and soul; and dark mages known as Thrathkin S'Bae.

Along the way, Marcus and Kyja will discover the truth about their own heritage, the strength of their friendship, and the depths of their unique powers.
