Word Count Wednesday

Well, today is a tender day for me.  My son will be leaving on a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He'll be serving in Texas and while I am so proud of him, I'm going to miss him. Because of this, helping him to get ready and doing a lot of stuff as a family one last time for two years, I didn't get any writing done.  I did have another idea for a twist in Bart's story, but I haven't written it down. I know I'll get back to writing this week and I'll probably need that distraction.

How did you do this week?

So happy I’m finally able to participate in your WCW. I finally decided to quit my freelance job and write my book instead! Got in 6,000 words this week. My goal is 7500 by the end of the week, so I’m almost there!

Congrats on your son. Enjoy the blessings that come with giving your son to the Lord for two years. :-)

I'm so happy for your son and your family of his mission. Your, and his, blessings will be abundant.

I've done some writing today. I needed to rework a serious scene, the climax, in a book I just finished on the advice of a couple of my beta readers. Total count? Maybe 350 words, but it made the story better and my main character more sympathetic than before the change.

Congratulations, Kasey, on your courage to quit your job and become that full-time writer!

Thanks, Kasey, and how AWESOME for you to be able to write your book! Can't wait to see how it goes.

Debra, thanks, and congrats on the climax change. Sometimes those can be hard but they make all the difference. :)

My middle grade is now in the hands of my new critique group. This is the ms that won first place for LDStorymakers first chapter contest. It also got a 50 page request from an agent so I want to be sure it's really ready before I send it out. *bites nails*

I'm starting a new project while I wait. This time I'm going to try outlining it first. I've never done outlining so it should be interesting. There are just too many plot turns to keep it together in my head.

Yaaay, Janice!!!! Congrats on the 50 page request! That's so awesome. Tell your critique group to double-time it, will ya?

Julie, Texas may seem like a foreign country (I was born and raised there, so what do I know), but your son will probably survive a couple of years there. It won't be much hotter than Utah (might be a lot more humid, if he is in the east or along the coast). Probably won't snow much, but he could see a tornado or a hurricane in some parts. Plenty of warning to move inland for hurricanes. Tornadoes are harder to predict; I lived through one as a youngster. Staying alert to weather reports, access to shelters, and prayers are the best defenses I know of.

Some great people live in Texas; some of those are young people, and some of those are young ladies. Have I stirred the pot of mother's worries yet?

Your son will be doing God's work, so God will look after him.
