Word Count Wednesday

My little girl came into my room at 3 a.m. and I couldn't go back to sleep after that.  I finally just got up at 5:30 because I needed to be to an appointment at a government office (immigration) by 8 a.m.  Let me tell you, that is an experience.  When we approached the room, there were three armed guards, a metal detector, I was wanded and had to show my ankles, and my stuff was searched.  Then I sat in a little room and waited.  While in said room, a guy got on his cell phone, even though it clearly said no cell phones allowed and he got yelled at.  I shrank down in my seat a bit because I didn't want to get yelled at, but the lady was really nice to me and I was very grateful for that because you know that weird feeling you get when you're really tired?  Like you want to laugh at everything?  Yeah, I didn't think that would go over too well.  And then I came home to write my blog and realized it's Word Count Wednesday.

And the sorry fact is, I haven't written one word since NaNo ended.  I haven't even looked at what I wrote in November.  It's like there's a major holiday coming up or something.  I did make four dozen chocolate chip cookies a few days ago and I think I might make some more today.  Chocolate always helps insomnia/laughing hysterically, right?

Maybe I'll go lie down for a bit.  Or, maybe I'll start a story about someone who has to go to a government office very early in the morning and turns into a laughing zombie.  Wouldn't that be cool?

How have you done with your writing since NaNo?

I have several 1000 words working on Destination Zion (working title) for the story about my GG grandfather over the last couple weeks. Just got him married to Jennette Wilkin, my GG grandmother. Overall I'm sitting at 44,000 words on this one.

Sadly, my Chirstmas story over at LDSPublisher hasn't received any votes. But voting does continue until midnight tonight. I may have to give it an anon vote later after I get off work.

Even though I promised myself I wasn't going to do any writing this week because I need to concentrate on cleaning my house, shopping for presents, wrapping said presents, putting up Christmas decorations, writing and sending Christmas cards, and everything else that is needed in anticipation of our oldest son and his bride coming from Utah on Saturday, (is that like the longest sentence in history?) I still wrote almost 2000 words last night when I got caught up in a new scene.

I forget that you're Canadian and have to deal with immigration once in a while. My younger son's wife is Paraguayan, and her passport, or visa, is up for renewal, and when they traveled to Los Angeles to the closest Paraguayan embassy in August they found out that her renewal will have to wait behind a couple million applications that Obama signed off on (without congressional approval) recently for our illegally entered folks. Now our daughter-in-law will be walking around with an expired document for who-knows-how-long all because of votes. (I'm so mad!)

I haven't written anythings since NaNo either. I am a horrible writer! Actually, I'm just incredibly busy. Things seem to be breaking down around me, job, car, life, and I haven't had the brain power to deal with crises, and write awesome scenes. :( Here is to January being better!
I hope your day gets better. It should since I am convinced chocolate makes everything alright.

Oh, and I won the Holiday Hop thing, but I don't remember if I provided my email address. Here it is again, just in case.

I have written a couple of one-off pieces but I haven't added more to my NaNo story. I've looked at it a couple of times but I have to go back to the drawing board - it's going to be too short. I have an idea for a secondary storyline, but I'm not sure how to go about weaving it into my existing story. Maybe it gets its own chapters. Beats me.

I have to admit, I've been craving chocolate chip cookies lately. I blame my wife - she said something like that and now I can't get it out of my head. =( Maybe I should just buy a roll of Pillsbury when I'm at the store next. [Problem with that plan: raw cookie dough]

I was trying to figure out why you had an immigration issue and then thought, oh, right. =) I'm surprised you still have to deal with them - do you have to prove you're still married to an American? Is naturalization an option for you? (Do your children have dual citizenship?)

Jon, endlessly questioning, too

My kids were off track during November and I was babysitting my baby niece. Now that my kids are back in school and my sister-in-law quit her job, I've had a lot more time to write. I only have a couple chapters left on my rough draft. I'm hoping to finish it before the end of the year.

Charlie I'm going to go over and look for yours! That's awesome you entered that.

Debra, 2000 words at this time of year? Wow. And that stinks about your DIL. Immigration is difficult to deal with under the best of circumstances.

M.R. you and me are *likethis* on chocolate making everything all right. And thanks for the addy. I'll be contacting you.

Jon, don't go back to the drawing board completely. Something will come to you and flesh it out and you'll be amazed. I've been craving chocolate chip cookies, too, but I don't like the dough pklain, so that's probably a good thing. Haha. As for immigration, the issue wasn't mine, but my son's and it's a long, long, story I'll have to tell you sometime. :)

Janice, you're my inspiration. I would love to finish mine before the end of the year but know I won't. How's your booksignings going? Do you love it? I love meeting new people. Best part of the job for me. :)

Jon, that should be *plain* not *pklain* I blame it on lack of sleep. :)
