Book Review & Giveaway for The Hope of Azure Springs!

I was excited to participate in the blog tour for Rachel Fordham's new book, The Hope of Azure Springs. The back copy looked so intriguing and this book definitely delivered.

A young woman named Em is barely conscious, suffering from a gunshot wound, when she's brought to the town of Azure Springs. While she recuperates, Sheriff Caleb Reynolds is determined to find out what happened and bring her attackers to justice. During his investigation he comes to find out more of Em's past and he has a chance to help her find her long lost sister. But as Em and Caleb work together, their friendship starts to turn into something more. Can they trust their feelings and reach for happiness when they've both suffered so much loss?

I loved this sweet, heart-warming tale of how life takes a lot of unexpected turns and though we all suffer through loss and trial, there can still be happiness. I loved the character of Caleb and how steady and true he was. The author did a particularly good job in revealing his back story in such a way that made him seem real and relatable in how and why he acted the way he did. Em had a great character arc in finding herself and then finding her sister. The mystery of who shot her and why kept the tension going as we got to know the town of Azure Springs and the people who would do anything to help a girl who had no one. The descriptions of the town and its memorable inhabitants really brought it to life and made it easy to imagine that Azure Springs was a real town. (There were a few characters that I hope will get their own story sometime in the future!) I really enjoyed the author's style and will be looking for more from her!

Here's the back copy:

Seven years ago, orphaned and alone, Em finally arrived at a new home in Iowa after riding the orphan train. But secrets from her past haunt her, and her new life in the Western wilderness is a rough one. When her guardian is shot and killed, Em, now nineteen, finally has the chance to search for her long-lost sister, but she won't be able to do it alone.   For Azure Springs Sheriff Caleb Reynolds, securing justice for the waifish and injured Em is just part of his job. He's determined to solve every case put before him in order to impress his parents and make a name for himself. Caleb expects to succeed. What he doesn't expect is the hold this strange young woman will have on his heart. Debut author Rachel Fordham invites historical romance readers to the charming town of Azure Springs, Iowa, where the people care deeply for one another and, sometimes, even fall in love.

Rachel Fordham has long been fascinated by all things historical or in the words of her children “old stuff”. Often the historical trivia she discovers is woven into her children's bedtime tales. Despite her love for good stories she didn’t attempt writing a novel until her husband challenged her to do so (and now she’s so glad he did). Since that time she’s often been found typing or researching while her youngest child naps or frantically writing plot twists while she waits in the school pick-up line. In addition to her passion for storytelling, she enjoys reading, being outdoors and seeing new places. Rachel lives with her husband and children on an island in Washington state.
