NaNo Starts Today & So Far I Suck At It

Well, NaNoWriMo starts today and so far I'm not doing very well.  I wrote down the title and my name.  Then I put chapter one.  And then I coughed myself to death.

Yeah, I suck at NaNoWriMo.

But I didn't stop there.  I went on Facebook and complained a bit and had two people cheer me on.  Their faith in me was humbling so I got a cough drop and swiped a Tootsie roll from my kid's Halloween candy and buckled down.  I wrote 500 words in twenty minutes, so that made me feel like maybe I can do this after all.

And the scene didn't totally suck, either, so bonus for me!

I think I'm supposed to write 1600 words a day or something like that, so I've got a bit to go, yet, but it's a fairly tense opening scene and I'm on a roll so wish me luck that I can hit that goal.

How are you doing so far?

You can do it, Julie! I think it's like 1667 words a day to do NaNo. If you've never tried Write or Die (http://writeordie.com/), you should. There's an online app you can try for free, but I have the desktop version and I love it. (I know I sound like a commercial for the product but I love it that much.) It totally boosts my productivity so much! I would be lost without it.

Yay, Julie! Go Girl! Woot!

The Write or Die app looks hysterical, actually. I don't think it would help Julie if she's feeling sick, though.

She just needs motivation to want to write more than she just wants to feel miserable with the cold. Hey, I've been there. I just want to snuggle in the blankets and cough and sneeze and moan for a while. Eventually, you have to get up, zombie-like, to get some food or medicine, or to make sure people see how miserable you feel and give you sympathy. THEN you can write.

I _might_ consider leaving a milkshake on your stoop tomorrow, if I can remember how to get there. =)

Ooh, and we should totally do an alternative First Page Friday tomorrow where everyone posts their crappy unedited NaNo first page. Bwahahha! I'm ok with my first page as is. Not too bad.

Lindzee, I'll have to look into that. Thanks for the suggestion.

Jon, you are right. I am miserable and three of my kids are just as miserable. But I have to say I quit writing today and was shocked to see I'd written 2456 words. So, not too shabby for being a sick person. And I like your idea. I already have First Page Friday for tomorrow, but what about doing it on Saturday? Is anyone up for that?

Wow, 2456 words? Way to go!

Yay! Look at all the words being written. So far I have 1,700 words or so. Not completely done for the day, but having bronchitis sucks and I sleep a lot.

Time for a nap...again.

Jon, I will under no circumstances agree to post my first page. None! It totally sucks, as does the other 1,300 words I've written. I've done no editing. I've been a very good Nanoite.

It's ok, Debra =) I understand. I did a little editing today because I can't really write while I'm at work, but I wanted to fill in some details like, whether there was a state road in Oklahoma that runs north-south or not, how far to the nearest airport and stuff. =) I still have more writing to do tonight, though.

Julie: could you open a thread for it on Saturday, see if anyone else wants to participate? Also, you might want to consider changing your blog post title for today. ;)

Jon, I will open a thread for it on Saturday, but why would I change the title of my post? I guess I'm confused. Or sick. Or both! :)
