I had critique group last night and even though we weren't critiquing anything of mine, during our brainstorming session for one of our group members I had this idea for my own work in progress and came home so excited to write! And guess what I've been doing this morning? Revising my first chapter. It's such an invigorating feeling after having a long break (like I've taken).
It's like diving into the pool after sitting in the hot tub for a long while, you know?
How did you do this week?
I'm an award-winning romantic suspense novelist, but in my free time I love to review books and my fave TV shows, as well as pass along great book deals, and eat Canadian chocolate---not necessarily in that order.

The deadline for my rewrite is next week, so I've been editing a lot. I love the way my book has turned out, but I'm really excited for next week when I can get back to my wip.
I still envy you your critique group. How I long to have a group of friends to sit around a living room and have conversations about writing. Maybe . . . someday, but not here in the deserts of nowhere.
I have three manuscripts pulled up on my computer at the moment. One is a new story, the one from November. I have one where I need to rewrite the ending before querying it, and one I'm "loosening up the dialogue" on before I submit it to my editor. That one is going along very well, only I can't use it as official word count since there isn't a way to keep track. I did discover the "Search in Document" feature that gave me the ability to downsize a certain overused word my character says. Very cool feature.
I'm glad you're excited to write in your WIP, Julie. Keep it up! Diving into the cool pool after sitting in the hot tub is very refreshing.
I second what Debra said about your critique group. I know >>I<< wouldn't fit in there, but it'd be neat to be a guest member for a session. (Debra would fit in better, but she's not local. But I am!)
I'm still going back through what I wrote for NaNo and fixing a couple of things and taking notes of ideas that come to me as I read through. Trying to find another plotline I can weave through it. I had an idea that maybe I could insert the bad guy's POV, except that his identity is somewhat cloudy until later in the story. And currently, the background information that started everything is still completely unwritten. Maybe I need to drop hints.
FWIW, I prefer going from the swimming pool to the hot tub. So cozy. Maybe it's because I'm dying for some above-32-degrees weather for a change.
Debra: can you check the word count before editing, then check it after? What exactly do you mean by loosening it up? Less formal? More wordy? =)
Jon: I guess you could say I do need to make the dialogue less formal. My head thinks that way, and normal people don't talk like that, so I'm going through the manuscript and listening to the characters speak to each other and making it--trying to make it more common, less stiff. And, yes, less wordy would help, too. And I never even thought about looking at the word count total before editing and then again after to get a total. *super duh*
Rebecca, editing on a deadline can be fun, too, (I know that sounds weird, but it can!) but I like the WIP idea. They're always a teeny bit more fun I think.
Debra, hurry and move closer so we can be in a critique group! You have such a great writing style. I can't wait for your books to come out.
Jon, I'd never thought about guest people. I don't know if you'd like it though. Maybe we're really crazy in person and normal online? Haha. I'm glad you're going through your NaNo book like I am. It makes me feel less lonely. :)
