My Report on 2012 New Year's Resolutions & Some For 2013

I was looking back over my New Year's Resolutions for 2012 and was pleasantly surprised that I'd accomplished a lot of them.

Here's what they were:

  • Read 112 books this year. (I had to really work hard on this one and barely squeaked in by reading the 112th on New Year's Eve. It stretched me for sure, but I did it.)
  • Write ten pages a week minimum on my work in progress. (I didn't do so well on this one, but I did write a manuscript and a half last year so I'm counting that a success.)
  • Organize my papers and pictures. (I organized almost all of my paper boxes and got rid of them. Now I'll start on my pictures I think.  Organizing, not getting rid of.)
  • Do one memorable family activity per month. (I sort of accomplished this one. Depending on your definition of memorable.)
  • Be more understanding with myself and others. (I like to think I accomplished this one. I feel like I did.)

I'd also like to set a few resolutions for 2013 and post them here for accountability's sake.

  • Read 113 books this year.
  • Finish two manuscripts this year.
  • Organize my pictures by scanning them in and categorizing them.
  • Organize my file cabinet.
  • Delete at least 7000 emails from my inbox.
  • Make a t-shirt quilt with all my old "keepsake" t-shirts.

I know those goals will stretch me a bit out of my comfort zone and I like that idea. I stink at quilting and my reading time might not allow for 113 books, but if I write it down and look at it often, I know I can accomplish all of these.

Do you make New Year's Resolutions? What are some of yours?

I can attest to you accomplishing that fifth goal -- for which I am eternally grateful!

As always, you're an inspiration, Julie. I'm going to copy one of yours from last year and make this the year I organize the 16 boxes of family pics and memorabilia I've moved back and forth across country without opening! Perhaps lugging them from the storage room to the house will also help with that perennial "weight loss and exercise" thing.

Aw, thanks Kerry! You are so sweet. I have the pictures categorized by child already, so I'm hoping that will help me. I think I might do it the Flylady way, fifteen minutes at a time so I'm not overwhelmed.

Although, come to think of it, I'm sure you don't really need New Year's Resolutions since you're practically perfect in every way . . .

My only resolution / goal this year is finish >>>>A<<<<< manuscript this year. Just one - I have two contenders. Maybe I could start a third and then...

Just a rough draft, though, I don't want to commit to more than that.

I am currently reading my first book of 2013 and it's a doozy. Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl. Extremely well-written with so many instant connections with me. And then... I'm about halfway through and BAM! She sucker punches me with a massive twist. (It's one of those where I can imagine needing to go back and read the first half again. Not yet, though.)

Thanks for the recommendation, Jon. I'll have to check that one out. And you can definitely finish one manuscript with all of us as your cheerleaders, right? RIGHT?! ;)

RIGHT! (Sorry, Jon, just saw this.)
You can totally DO it -- great goal! -- and do I see a First Page Friday in your near future?
