Book Re-Gifting Yay or Nay & Coughing Through a Blog Tour

Well, just when I think I'm getting better, the dang cough comes back with a vengeance.  I think it's related to my muse, who seems to come and go with varying strengths.  It has taught me that typing while coughing is difficult.  *sigh*

Anyway, I've been hinting at this blog tour I'm doing for All Fall Down and today I wanted to post it here so you could all join in the fun.  (I've had three stops already!) And if that wasn't enough, I also got a bonus review from Rebecca Talley here.  It's my birthday this weekend, and so far, I'm feeling like it's raining presents.  Thank you to everyone who has read and reviewed my book.  It is greatly appreciated.

Here's the full tour:

You can enter a Rafflecopter giveaway

I hope you enter.  I already know I have the best bloggy friends around, but hey, Christmas is right around the corner and you could win an early Christmas gift for yourself.

Which brings me to my question of the day.  If you buy or receive as a gift a physical book (as opposed to an ebook), and read it, do you ever re-gift it?  Is that considered bad manners or are books okay?

Is your $4.99 special going to extend to Nook books as well? (I really need to trade in my nook for a Kindle. Nooks really get left out of the good deals).

Hope your cough clears up soon and you feel better!

I've never re-gifted any books that I've acquired, but mostly because I don't know anybody with the same taste that I have. Also, because I usually only buy books that I know I will want to keep, and if I make a mistake and buy one that I really hate, I probably wouldn't wish it on anybody else, either. I wouldn't hesitate to do it, though, if the book weren't a keeper for me, but if I knew somebody else really wanted it.

I ditto what Melanie said. Really! I probably could restate it, but . . . why?

Get well!

I wouldn't mind getting a used book. I actually prefer them to new ones because they're easier to hold open. My family gives each other recycled gifts every year as part of our present giving tradition and books are often involved.

I've regifted books if they are in good shape. No bends in the pages, no cracks in the spine, no marks of any kind (this means I don't give away signed books, either. Those are mine!)

I think the regifting rules apply, same as any other gift. Good condition, applicable to the recipient (you aren't just pawning off your "junk").

So, you're offering Print copies of your book as a prize, but you haven't told us that we could potentially buy print copies? Where?!?

Books are hard to regift in perfect condition (unless you haven't read it yet) I will, however, pass along books that I think people should read. It's not so much a present then, more of a gift. Sometimes I get them back, sometimes I don't. I might make an exception for a hardcover with a dust jacket, because the cracked spine isn't so obvious. But only to certain people who wouldn't consider it tacky. I wouldn't, personally, take offense. Why pay full price for a book if you can get a good copy used?

Gina, I'm with you. I'm not sending out my signed copies any more. Just makes me mad to not get them back. =O

I give books that I have read, but not generally as a gift as such.
