Word Count Wednesday

Well, all of my Canadian relatives are home now.  Sad.  It was a great weekend.

I bet you can guess my word count.  Zero.

But the good news is, school is out which means I will have more writing time (I provide incentives for older kids to babysit the younger ones for me for writing time.)  I'm excited to get some things going on my writing.

I'm also considering doing a sort of Blog-O-WriMo sort of thing on the blog.  Writing a book in a month with a bunch of my bloggy friends sounds fun.  What do you think?  Is summer too busy for that?  Maybe we could think of incentives for ourselves.

How did you do this week?

I picked up a book in a month kit once. It had some good ideas in it, but I have to wonder if it's more of a tantalizing bait book for those of us who haven't finished a book yet.

Do published authors find a thrill at the prospect of writing a book in a month?

For incentives, how about pledges, like they do in races for charity? Julie, if you write a book in the specified month, I will buy you a large McDonald's Chocolate Shake, even if you're not sick.

A bloggy WriMo might be what I need to kick start my next book. It depends on which month you pick. June is good. July and August are not so good. :)

I always forget to track my word count but it wasn't great this week anyway. I've had a cold.

Camp NaNoWriMo kicks off in June. It's a summer version of NaNo for those who have more free time in the summer than in the fall (supposedly just parents and teachers... but... I kinda think everybody in the US has less time in November than almost any other month...?)

Except those of us who farm. November is actually when everything is harvested, my house is clean, and I can find an hour in the afternoon to write.

Jon, I don't know if other authors get a thrill. I've always been too intimidated to do it. :( I'm up for pledges, though! :)

Janice, I think that's what I need, too, is a kickstart. It might be fun to do a Kickstart Bloggy WriMo instead of a full blown write a novel. *taps finger on chin* I'm liking that idea a lot!

Gina, that's awesome. I have to admit that I'm intimidated by those. The safety of my blog is so . . . safe. I know, I'm lame. But thanks for letting me know.

Kate, I had no idea! The things I learn every day.

I wonder if we could do a Kickstart Bloggy WriMo and maybe throw up pages for critique by commenters, offer pledges, and even get Ms. Shreditor and Angela involved. This could be totally fun!

Could you define "kickstart bloggy wrimo" please? =)

Well, it would be sort of a month-long checking in of sorts, doing crits maybe, word counts, pledges, really motivating ourselves to make dents in our manuscripts or starting one that we've been putting off. That's what I'm sort of imagining right now anyway. What do you think?

Well, this last week I put the finishing touches on my speculative fiction story, and started a new one. Last night I wrote 324 words, all of which I will probably erase at some point, but at least they are there now. I've got a great new idea and I am really stoked to get on with it, I just have to find the right beginning.

Bloggy WriMo ... hmmm. At first I thought that meant writing a blog each day for a month. But now it sounds like just writing each day and checking in with our progress, is that right? I could use that for my new story, though I'm not up to writing a whole novel. If I've understood this WriMo thing correctly, then, yes, I'm all for it.

P.S. June is good for me, but July is not, because we will be travelling. But we'll be back by August, if that still counts as summer.

Tomorrow! Start tomorrow! June is perfect for me. I tried the November NaNo once, but that month is really busy with family once it gets closer to Thanksgiving. You only have to miss one long weekend and you lose momentum. Yeah, I'd like to join your BlogOWriMo. I need 60,000 more words on my current WIP to finish, so . . . what are we waiting for?
