Word Count Wednesday

Well, I haven't made much progress on my novel, as I've been doing a lot of research.  However, I was asked to speak in my church this week and I've been writing that talk.  And stressing over it.  You see, it's Mother's Day on Sunday and there are some people who feel sensitive about that day and since I'll be speaking I want to make sure my message is really what's in my heart.  So, yeah, I'm stressing a bit.

But I'm counting the words I've written for that talk and so far we're up to four pages single-spaced.  I know, I know, I'll probably end up deleting, but for now, wish me luck on this speaking engagement, okay?

How did you do this week?

This week I haven't had much of a chance to write - yet! Last week I finished my WIP and sent it off to the editor. So I guess I'm doing okay with it.

I've written 3,444 words on one blog and a new WIP that I'm shelving in order to start a new one. *sighs*

Good luck with your talk. Yeah, Mother's Day can be a very touchy subject. I don't envy you your chore, but I know you'll do great.

I remember going to church on Mother's day while we were trying to get pregnant. The first year wasn't too bad. The second was a nightmare. I don't envy your assignment. There are so many women struggling with infertility. Good luck.

Can I count the pages of notes I took during Storymakers in my word count? My kids are off track and I'm editing so my word count is nothing to get excited about.

Oh, good luck on your Mother's Day talk! My son has to give a talk on Sunday -- but it won't be about mothers, it will be about the Aaronic Priesthood. Apparently, all the young men will be talking about it on Sunday. It looks like the bishop is trying not to emphasize Mother's Day. Come to think of it, I don't blame him. There have definitely been times when I did not want to attend on that day.

For the first time in a long time, I am excited about Word Count Wednesday because I actually have a Word Count now! Yes, I am working on a new story, and I've written at least 2204 words. I say "at least," because I've probably written and deleted at least a thousand, if not more.

I've written zero words. I know that is awesome, right? But I did watch Hawaii Five-O. I read your post about that yesterday. I think I'm gonna start recording that every week. It was good...nice Yakuza angle.

Our ward is having a father-son campout this Friday, probably to give the mothers some quiet time to write their talks. Good luck with yours!

So, for my first word-count entry, I'm up to 1,248 words. And there are so many more in my head!

Julie, I know you've already gotten your talk written, but you might want to check out these blog posts over at BCC regarding Mother's Day talks.

Maybe you can get some insights from it, or maybe you can just waste some time procrastinating. =)

The second one links to a MD talk that includes the phrase "There Be Dragons" in the first paragraph, so you know it's going to be good. At the very least, it will be the most interesting Mother's Day talk you'll ever read that tells a story of a cross-dressing beauty pageant. (Note: I am not making this up.)

I feel your pain: I have given five Mother's Day talks and two Father's Day talks. (They're both tough.) Good luck!

So sorry about the Mother's Day talk. That would be scary. I've never given one. I hardly ever speak in church because my husband's the bishop, and he knows better.

I think I wrote about 1000 words this week. I'm having lots of fun with it. Next research topic: laser tag.

I have a Mother's Day talk too and was asked on Monday, so I'm really feeling the stress! I tried to back out nicely (because I just had to talk in November), but we're moving and they wanted me to speak. Oh well!

Randy, woohoo for finishing! That's awesome.

Debra, you amaze me with all the irons you have in the fire.

Janice, of course you can count that!

Melanie I am totally happy dancing with you. That's wonderful!

Michael, it's an "explosive jaw-dropping" season finale this week. I really enjoy the show. Yeah, you need to suspend some reality, but it's like a little action movie every week. I enjoy it. :) Who wouldn't love Hawaii?

T that's always my problem. Too many words in my head and not enough time/energy to get them all down!

Jon, I read both those talks and the comments. Thank you for those! They had a lot of good points that I'm going to consider. And it was funny, too!

Thanks, Jordan!

Rebecca, my husband is the exec sec so I have to give the prayers when he can't find people. LOL The dangers of the spouse's job. Oh, good luck with the laser tag!

Tamera, we should totally prepare notes. Good luck with yours!

It's a sensitive subject. Not one easily handled. Good luck with it Sunday.

I'm just coming off the conference high/fog that follows this weekend. (We missed you there) But I did write. I wrote about 1200 words on my tech suspense, and about 1800 words on my YA scifi/steampunk.

I'm sure that your talk is going to be great my inlaws are also speaking in church on Sunday and I know they have been stressing about it as well.
