Whitney Houston's Death

I was so surprised to hear about Whitney Houston's death on Saturday. She seemed to be on the road to recovery and really starting to make a comeback. A lot of my teen years had her music in the background, and I have some wonderful memories dancing to her songs.

And, of course, who could forget The Bodyguard movie she starred in with Kevin Costner. I have to admit one of my favorite lines from that show was, "Are you afraid I'm going to get picked off in my snazzy running suit?" And Kevin Costner deadpans, "No, I'm afraid I'll have to go running with you." Haha! Don't you think at some point Secret Service agents actually think that?

(As an aside, there was a really interesting documentary on Secret Service agents broadcast this past weekend. It was a peek into their procedures and some of the stuff they talked about was writer's GOLD! I know I'm going to use it in a book someday.)

But after listening to all the reports on Whitney's untimely death, I feel so sorry for her daughter and her family. I can't imagine the pain of losing someone so suddenly like that and my heart goes out to them. Such a great talent and definitely gone too soon. It really drives home the fact that we don't know when our time is up and we should definitely make the most of every moment of life that we are given.

Anyway, in light of the tragedy, I wanted to know if you had a favorite Whitney Houston song. I think mine was I'm Every Woman for the beat and Greatest Love of All for the message. What about you?

I think my favorite Whitney song is I Will Always Love You. So pretty.

Tell me more about this documentary. Where can I find it? It sounds so interesting.

One Moment In Time is my favorite. It moves me more than any of her other songs, and probably always will.

My husband put together a series of firefighter photographs he took into a slideshow to the song "Hero." Talk about silencing a roomful of big, strong tough-guys. When this slideshow came on during an award banquet, not a single voice could be heard while it played. All eyes were riveted on the pictures. Could be they were looking for their own faces under the heavy gear and soot, too. I love firefighters! They're my heroes!

Janice, it was on the Discovery channel. I taped it so I could re-watch and take notes, but I hope they re-broadcast it again for anyone who missed it. It really was good.

Debra, I love firefighters, too, and that is a beautiful song. :)

For some reason, the scene from the Bodyguard that sticks with me is the silk ribbon falling on the sword and slicing in two.

The soundtrack was definitely the best part of the movie.

I Wanna Dance with Somebody is probably my favorite song of hers, from her first album.

Despite everything else, she could SING! I also enjoyed her in the role of 'The Preacher's Wife' and the corresponding soundtrack

Such a beautiful woman with such a beautiful voice. She made some sad choices.

I loved her first three albums. And one of my favorite songs was her version of Joy to the World from The Preachers Wife. The song had so much joy in it and it's my favorite version of the song.
