Word Count Wednesday

Don't forget I'm at the Pleasant Grove Library Fundraiser tonight from 7-9.  I hope to see you there!

I'm sort of at a strange and sad, but wonderful and exciting place in the publishing process.  The editing is almost done, the acknowledgments page has been written and my book will be going to press soon.  My baby won't be my baby anymore, she'll be launched onto society---I mean my readers, to be told how amazing she is (or horrible, but I prefer the former).

I've been putting all the finishing touches on things, getting last minute changes made as I enter the final phase.  I think I'm feeling a little verklempt at the imminent goodbye to this book because there's something wonderful about having it all to yourself.  On the other hand, there's no point in writing if you're not going to share it, I think, so I'm totally excited to have you guys read this one.

Like I said, it's a strange time for me.

I got all my editing goals accomplished this week and I've been working hard as deadlines are looming and I don't want anyone mad at me for not meeting them.  There's something so motivating about deadlines, aren't there?

How did you do this week?

Julie, I really like this feature on your blog. It motivates me to write. Good luck on your next book.

Unfortunately, I did very little writing this week. This week I will be working on a synopsis so I can submit my finished novel.

I sent my book off to beta readers. I've heard back from a couple already. So far, no big changes. Meanwhile, I keep tweaking.

I agree that it's both exciting and a little sad to finish a book. Writing the ending is so exciting, and it's kind of a let-down to have to start all over. Of course, it'll probably be just as fun to write the ending to the next one.

Two questions:

Will you have copies of your books for sale at the library? I was hoping for maybe Dangerous Confections or Ribbon of Dark Chocolate. (What? Yes, I do have a little bit of a sweet tooth. Why do you ask?)

Is there a chance that when you get ready to publish, Covenant might want a last look at it to potentially pick it up?

If not, I would love to see some more details on how the self-publish process goes.

In a completely unrelated matter, I've been doing some test reading to help out a friend and I told my wife I'd go and get dinner once I got to the end of the scene. Forty minutes later, she asks when I'm going. Oops! Got lost in the story. I'm sure my friend will love to hear that!

My writing sucked this week--pardon my language.

Randy, I'm so glad you like it. I always need the accountability and it's nice to find other writers in my same boat---trying to get some writing done! :)

Rebecca, you're right, starting a new project will be fun. I should totally concentrate on that. :)

Jon, you made me hungry with all your chocolate confection talk. Bad Jon! As for your friend I'm sure they are thrilled to know that. Especially since you are a reader for so many famous authors. It must have been an awesome scene to keep you riveted. And yes, I will have all my books there for sale. It's a miracle! As for publishing, Covenant wouldn't have a slot for me until 2014. That seems so far away . . .

Debra, I am shocked at your language and clutching my pearls as we speak. :) Next week will be better I'm sure.

Jon! Now you have to write those culinary international romantic suspense novels!

I know that weird,in-between feeling, Julie, where you want to keep it forever and share it, too.

I polished about 80 pages in the last week. Woot!

BTW, you won't like me when I'm angry. Pages! ;)

Jordan, I never want to make you angry. You are skeery.

J.A. I wish you could have been in PG tonight, too! Next time for sure. :)
