Word Count Wednesday

It's crunch time for me.  I'm doing final edits on this puppy and I'm really excited about where it's going.  We had a glitch earlier this week with making sure things were tight and snappy, but I think I've got a handle on it.

My word count wasn't great because I was mostly deleting and smoothing, but I'm happy with where I'm at and the direction I'm going in.

How did you do with your goals this week?

Congrats Julie! I'm almost half way thru my WIP, need to stay off the net and write!! But had to stop in for ya!

Thanks, Deanna! I know the feeling, but the net is so easy to get sucked into, isn't it. *sigh* I'm so glad you stopped in! :)

I've been plotting and bouncing ideas off of CPs this week, but yesterday I started writing and squished out 3,000 of the crummiest words ever.

But hey... that's what revisions are for, right? :\

Gina, that's exactly what revisions are for. You pounded out 3000 words? That's great! You'll have to let me know how this project turns out. :)

I wrote a short story I'll be submitting for a contest and revised it. Still that's only 3,500 - twice. I guess it's better than no writing at all.

Randy, 3500 words twice is amazing! I'll cross my fingers you do well in the contest. Do you dare tell us more about the contest and your submission? I'd love to hear what you're up to these days in your writing.

Oh absolutely. The contest is Once Upon An Apocalypse. They want the writers to take a fairy tale or nursery rhyme and introduce zombies into it. I have a friend who writes a lot of fractured fairy tales when I presented it to her, she challenged me to write one as well. I did a take on The Little Match Girl. Here's a link to the contest. http://onceuponanapocalypse.com/guidelines/

I've also been doing a major edit on one of my novels. I just took a break from it this week. When I finish that, I will be starting a new novel which I classify as a murder/comedy.

Sorry, I sort of rambled on there a bit.

Wow, that sounds so interesting. Thanks for the link! And a murder/comedy, well, that's something I've never tried before. :)

Keep us posted on the progress, okay?

I got a helpful reject on my fractured fairy tale. I knew it wasn't perfect but the reject made me step aside and come to terms that it had some serious problems. Sniff. I love the story too much to let it go so I'm completely rewriting it while my other MS is with a beta reader. Two steps back - three steps forward, right? I'd give you a word count but I really have no idea. :)

Who won the contests from your jumpstart nano? I must have missed the big announcement.

Just got back from my 2 week vacation to Virginia. I had planned to write every day, but the power went out for a while, then other stuff happened. So my word count for last 2 weeks was around 200. I did do a lot brainstorming though.

This week I'm trying to finish things up so I can send my ms off to beta readers.

Oh Janice, rejections stink. You have such a great attitude though. As for the contest, I need to go through the posts and see if I posted it. I thought I did, but maybe I dreamed that.

Rebecca, I am SO jealous. I really need a vacation. Next month maybe. And brainstorming is always good!

I wrote 9,256 words this week. I'm glad. Next week we're leaving on a road trip to visit my husband's 98 year-old mother in Arkansas and I probably won't even be able to open my computer the whole time. It will be torture!!!! I'll miss all your blogs Monday through probably next Wednesday, maybe Thursday. So if you don't hear from me Julie, I didn't jump ship, I only rolled away for a while. :)

What do you think about switching POVs from 1 person to 3rd and to a different person 2/3rds of the way in a book? Too risky?

Debra Erfert said...

First person, I meant 1st person, not 1 person. Sheesh!!

Debra, you're not allowed to have a life! *sob* We will miss you.

Michelle, from your post, I think your brain stopped working about ten minutes ago, my friend! That's amazing work, though. Good for you! :)
