An Emotional Day

My son left to serve an LDS mission in Spain today. I'm excited for him and all the new experiences that are ahead, but my heart is tender because we will miss him. He keeps our family laughing and is a sweet older brother.

In fact, I was doing so well at not crying until I saw my little boy say one more goodbye to his big brother.

And that's when I couldn't stop the tears. Two years is a very long time to a little boy. Even looking at this picture again makes me weepy.  But after one more hug and kiss, we waved goodbye.

My heart is so full and I've been emotional with all the lasts that our family is experiencing until he comes back, and thinking of all the firsts he'll be experiencing without us. (Is it too stalkerish to admit that I tracked his plane? It is? Okay, don't judge.)

But, in the end, this is a turning point in his life and what happens in these next two years of service will be something he looks back on forever. I'm so grateful that he made the decision to serve the people in Spain. I'm especially grateful to be his mom---especially on days like today.

I was in Spain on my mission over 20 years ago--in the Canary Islands specifically. It's a beautiful place with lots of rich history and great people. I wish him the best.

Thinking of you!! I know exactly how you feel right now. All those emotions. Mine poured out my eyes for weeks. :)
