Word Count Wednesday

I have some exciting news and a secret.  I have started drafting again on my Super Secret Project.  It's something totally different than I've ever done before and it is really exhilarating to pick it back up again.

So far I have written 2436 words.  Woohoo!  Don't you love that first flush when you fall in love with your project and you want to be with it, you think about it, and can't wait to get back to it whenever you're away?  Yeah, me too.  It's a great feeling.

How did you do this week?

Yay, Julie! I got 1000 words. So far, I'm in like with my project--still waiting for the love stage.

I've written about 500 words. Or maybe a lot less. It's been hard to keep track I thought I had an idea, but I found that I was putting off doing any writing on it. And whenever I sat down and forced myself to write, I found that I was letting myself get distracted by anything and everything. So in other words, not much has happened here, and I am actually doing some housework while waiting for a new plot bunny to bite my ankle.

Rebecca, in like is a good stage, too. And yay for progress!

Melanie, I'm going to have to remember plot bunny. I laughed out loud at that one! :)

Melanie, I don't know if you saw it, but I gave you some ideas over on this thread:

http://ldswritermom.blogspot.com/2012/09/word-count-wednesday-and-blog-hop-winner.html

I wrote a tiny bit, but ended up editing out more, so I think I ended up with a net loss of about 100 words. =(

I'm actually thinking about taking one of my composition books with me to lunch so I can get 15 minutes of hand-writing. (But then I have to transcribe it onto my computer at home.) Anybody else do that? Maintain more than one source of writing?

Julie: Aside from the fact that you're not telling us anything, what makes this project a Super Secret? Are you going to try to make a clean version of 50 Shades of Grey? Is it NOT going to have terrorists? ;)

Jon, I have more than one source of writing. I carry a notebook, I have one at my bedside, and I've been known to write on church programs, napkins, and whatever else is handy.

And if I told you about my Super Secret project, it wouldn't be a secret now, would it? ;)

I have the hardest time getting through rough drafts. The one I'm working on is technically a rewrite, but I've changed so much it might as well be a rough draft. I love getting to the scenes I've already pictured a thousand times in my head and writing them again. I'm not on one of those scenes right now. My word count isn't super high.

Jon, I did see those ideas, but like you, I have trouble following through. I did like the idea of somebody hopping into another person's back yard with the intent to toilet paper everything, only to find a freshly dug grave. I wish I could make something of that!

Julie, I'll be interested in hearing about your Super Secret project once it's not so secret anymore. :-)

I bet you're writing a romance! I mean a straight forward, non-thriller, non-explosive strapped around the chest romance! How wonderful! Or is it a young adult magic thing? Hmmmm, now I'm so curious I can't hardly think.

This week I've finished a query letter (very tough to do) and outlined the synopsis for "Snowdrift" (Thank you, again, Melanie Goldmund!). I haven't been keeping track of the word count, there just isn't a way to do that and be accurate. What else? Oh, I continued to write on a previous WIP in between, but didn't keep track of that either (it needs a new first chapter).

I still haven't heard anything yet from Shadow Mountain publishing after their full request of "Bucket List of Hope," but it's only been two weeks now. Or has it been three? I almost don't have any nails left--so nervous.

Friday morning a new idea hit me like a bolt of lightning and I've put down 16,000 words on it! I've got outlines for two sequels, and I am so, so, so, so excited!!! :)

I'm so excited that everyone is getting something written (or edited or rewritten)! Yay for you guys.

I recieved half of my official final edits from my editor. so I spent the last few days acccepting additions and deletions, as well as addressing some technology issues and consistency issues in the ms. While I didn't write I got a lot of work done. :)

Next week? the second half of edits and then its off to the typesetter I believe.

Whoohoo!
