I Really Want My Mom

I'm sick today. I felt fine until about 5:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon and then I just felt really cold. And then feverish. And every part of my body aches, from my tiny toe to my teeth. And my throat hurts. (Is that TMI?)

I tossed and turned all night and around 3 a.m. I thought about my mom. Even though I'm probably well past the age to want my mom when I'm sick I came to the conclusion that I still want my mom to come and take care of me. And bring me a chocolate shake from McDonald's because that would make my throat feel better and that's what she did when I was little. (Yeah, that was all said in a little bit of a whiny voice).

The problem is, of course, that my mom lives in Canada and definitely can't come and take care of me. But it still doesn't stop me from wishing.

Did your mom ever do special stuff for you when you were sick?

I always got Pepsi when my stomach was upset. And it always helped. I know the usually remedy is ginger-ale, but I think I'm allergic to ginger. Never could eat ginger snaps like my sister did by the boxful. My husband gets me my Pepsi Thurstbusters now--after I whine long enough ;0

I'm sorry you're sick, Julie. Stay in bed and recoup.

Prayers from Yuma,
Deb

I'm sorry you feel sick. It's okay to whine a little. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, you know. ;)

My mom? Sprite or 7up if I had a stomach flu. Other that that, she just made sure I stayed in bed and rested.

My mom gave us 7Up if we'd been throwing up, but other than that, I can't think of anything really special that she did.

Hope you feel better soon!

It was actually my grandmother who gave me comfort food. For me, it was Coca Cola in those little 8 or 6 oz glass bottles, on ice, in a tumbler glass.

These days, my comfort food is Cheetos, but I'm not sure how that got started.

I know this doesn't help you, but MY mom is coming out to visit next month, probably because of all of my whining lately about how I'm feeling inadequate to be a father.

If I knew where you lived, I'd bring you a McDonald's chocolate shake, except that I don't want to cross over into a stalker fan. From your description of your symptoms, it sounds like the flu. :(

:( Sorry you're sick!

Every once in a while when we had really bad sore throats, my mom would crush ice in the blender (weird that that would be suck a luxury!). A few times she made THE BEST VANILLA MILKSHAKES IN THE WORLD. (I just put together that she worked at Orange Julius in a teenager. Um, duh, she knew how to make milkshakes.) I also vividly remember eating a whole bunch of freshly baked cookies when I was home sick once. I don't know if she knew I ate those... but man, cookies have never been so amazing before or since.

(Hope my son didn't get you sick! He was out of school last week, but he was 100% better by the time you saw him.)

It's funny how at any age our thoughts turn to our moms when we're sick. I got 7-Up or Postum for a sick tummy. I got lots of Postum and ice cream when I had rheumatic fever. Even now I want Postum when I have a sore throat or just feel down and ice cream for everything else. Take care and get better fast.
