Book Review and Giveaway!

I'm so excited to be part of the blog tour for Chalon Linton's new Regency, A Tangled Inheritance. I enjoyed Ms. Linton's first book, An Inconvenient Romance, and it was fun to see the characters of Leah and Charles make an appearance in the new book.

Leah's cousin, Nora, has come to help her prepare for her wedding. Charles's school friend, Devlin, is also visiting/waiting around for the wedding and he's thrown together often with Nora. He's met her before at a society event, and was captivated by her, but knows he's not in a position to make an offer for her. Yet the more he gets to know her, the harder it is to stifle his feelings for her. Nora has some decisions to make of her own as the man she's been betrothed to since birth finally makes an appearance in her life and she must decide what to do. Can either of them risk letting their feelings go beyond friendship? Or will they miss their chance at love for society's expectations?

I really enjoyed the characters in the book. Nora is well-drawn, longing for more than mindless conversation about fashion or weather. She has a good heart, but circumstances beyond her control force her to make some decisions that are heartrending. Her struggles to figure out what's best and what's right make her very relatable for the reader. I thought Devlin was a tortured hero who is trying to overcome so much in his life and not having an easy time of it. I liked that he wasn't a perfect man, he was truly wrestling with some very complicated trials, which also made him sympathetic. Readers will definitely be rooting for them to get their happily-ever-after! The author did a great job of fitting the story into the time period with society's restrictions, and kept the tension and pacing at just the right spot to keep me turning pages long past bedtime. A sweet afternoon read.

Here's the back copy:

Nora Ellsworth, darling of London society, has her choice of eligible suitors, but since childhood, she has been expected to marry Jonathan Browning, a gentleman whose wealth and stability will someday secure the futures of Nora and her mother and sister. The family estate will pass to an odious male cousin upon the death of Nora’s father, and when he suddenly takes ill, her need to marry well becomes vitally important.

As Nora struggles with the idea of marrying without love, she finds herself increasingly drawn to Devlin Fausett, a man with dark eyes and intriguing conversation. But Devlin’s reputation as an indebted gambler is difficult to ignore. Despite the rumors from the ton and the marriage decision before her, Nora is determined to befriend the dashing Mr. Fausett, and his charms soon make it all but impossible to remember her duty. Until she learns the truth of her fortune. There is a way to keep her family’s estate, but the price is high: Nora must wed, as soon as possible. Torn between two very different men, she must make the ultimate decision. Will she be guided by her head or her heart?
