It was over 30 years ago. Sister Barbara Smith, general Relief Society president came to speak at a stake RS conference. After I stood in line with my oldest baby in my arms to shake her hand. She made ME feel important and took the time to tickle my baby and coo at her. I don't remember her talk, but I'll always remember the feelings I had leaving that conference.
I was 19 and got to attend a session of general conference at the brand new conference center with my grandparents. It was my first time in UT and I loved being that close to our church leaders. it was SUCH a wonderful experience!!
When I was in Young Mens we got to go to the church office building. One of the counselors in the Bishopric was in security for the church and so we got to go into a room that most people do not get to see. It was the room where the First Presidency and the Quorum of the 12 meet. We sat down at this magnificent table and guess who came in to talk to us. It was Elder LeGrand Richards. I was so happy. He was one of my favorite apostles at that time. After talking to us we got to have our picture taken with him as well. What a humbling experience.
Over 12 years ago I had met Michael McLean. I was awed just to meet him, his music has touched my life in so many ways. It was neat to see that he is just a regular person like anyone else, but I was so happy to have met him for a brief moment. Music is a universal language and he has an amazing talent that he has shared with the world. The Forgotten Carols are my favorite!
When I was in college, I was in the same ward as President Hinkley, being able to shake his hand was one of the highlights of my college years! :)
A couple years ago I was asked to give the opening prayer at stake conference. First time I'd been asked to do that. our main speaker and presiding over the conference was Elder David Bednar. My wife and I were also invited to sit on the stand about ten feet away from the pulpit as he gave a remarkable 45 minute talk.
I've been able to meet really cool people (including Sheri Dew's mom), but one of my favorite memories is meeting Traci Hunter Abramson and having her sign the nine (I think) books of hers I had! Very cool!
I got to meet Elder Holland once and was blown away at how amazing he is!! :-)
You guys have had some incredible experiences! Thanks for sharing. Winner will be announced on the blog on Friday! :)
