Word Count Wednesday and a Question

Well, my word count this week was zero.  I think I've burned myself out or something.  And it's been raining and cloudy and dreary which makes me feel less like writing.  I think I need a pick me up.  Do you ever feel that way?

I've been kicking around an idea to do a Halloween short story "contest" for the Word Count Wednesdays in October.  Wouldn't it be fun to do a flash fiction every Wednesday and put it in the comment trail for everyone to comment on?  It would boost our word count and be fun at the same time.  What do you think? Would you participate?  I could even scare up some prizes.  (Although I have noticed that people don't claim their prizes lately even after I beg them to.  I wonder what to do about that.)

Anyway, how did you do this week?

That sounds like fun. Halloween flash fiction is something I haven't tried yet.

I would claim a prize. I like prizes. They make me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Well, my word count was also zero. I still haven't come up with a new idea yet. I seem to be scaring the plot bunnies away or something.

You can send any unclaimed prizes to my family! Just ask me for their address! :-)

I actually wrote just under 1000 words this week. Doesn't sound like much, but for me it is. I've been very lazy about writing.

I can't help you on prizes, but I did drop another 4,000 or so on the new WIP! :)

*whines* I want to work on my WIP. *sniffles*

There was a fella over on the Authors' Think Tank who offered a $25.00 Amazon gift card for the winning entry to a short short winner last week. The story had to include nine prompt words and be around 100 words. Easy, right? He was disappointed in how many writers took the time and entered. He had expected more entries. I wonder if maybe these days between our day lives and our writing, our precious time is being consumed like oxygen in a room full of fire.

This week I wrote absolutely nothing on my work in progress.

I need a pick-me-up big time this month. Writing can be so up-and-down, and I hate all the waiting. You know how it goes. I am getting better at hammering out my word count, though. I got 2000 this week.

I happily endorse the flash fiction suggestion. I always like writing prompts. Wish I could find a "writing prompt a day" calendar or email list; that would be so awesome for me.

Hmm, how long is flash fiction? I have this book at home of really, really short fiction, along the lines of the famous (I didn't look it up, so I hope I got it right):

For Sale: a pair of baby shoes. Never worn.

Me:

After a long day at work, I got to my house and opened the gate ... OF HELL!

Needs work.

Debra -- just hearing about the short, short story contest where you needed 9 prompt words and could only write 100 scares me off! That sounds so hard to me. Maybe that's why so few people entered? You'd scarcely be able to fit a plot in there, let alone characters!

Jon, it's my understanding that flash fiction is a story of less than 1000 words.

(Did my comment get flagged for moderation because of the bolded word? You can change it to "holy scrud" if you want.)

Ah, 1000 words is so much easier than 250 or 100. Or 10.

Julie, enjoyed H50 last night. I agree that Daniel Dae Kim is really good at that heartbreaking grief (as he was on Lost) but I enjoyed the Steve's Mom stuff so much more. I was sad when I saw her leave the island because I would have liked to see more interaction with her. (Maybe I'll get my wish, all things considered.)

(Confused on why he called Danno "Boo Boo". I get the reference, but I'm just not sure why it was thrown in.)

I'm torn on what should be a realistic solution for Danno. In my own life, my dad moved 3 hours away and so I only saw him a couple times a year, if that. Maybe she can spend summers with him. Maybe he can get the CSI team in Vegas to set up the new dad by planting fake evidence that he's a child molester and Rachel will have to come running back to him. Some good crossover potential there.

CBS, do you need an extra writer?

Janice, me, too! Prizes are like unexpected gifts. Who wouldn't want one!

Melanie, I still chuckle whenever I read the words plot bunny. Haha!

Charlie that is AWESOME! And welcome back, we've missed you!

Gina, you are a machine! *claps*

Debra, that's what I was afraid of, hence my question as to whether anyone would participate. On the flip side, if there's not many entries, then more chances for less people to win the prizes. Hmmm...

Rebecca, 2000 words is amazing! You should be proud of that.

Jon, I think gates of hell should definitely be in it. This could be fun if you participate . . .

As for DDK I never watched him on LOST (I vowed never to watch another JJ Abrams show after Alias, long story) but anyway, he did amazing last night. As for the BooBoo thing, I didn't get it either. But I thought of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and laughed. haha! I don't know if I want the mom to come back. It's so unrealistic and what she put her family through was heinous. I can't relate to it as a mother, really. So I want her to stay away because it's too soap-operish for me. But I still love Christine Lahti. You know what else I wanted to see? Steve concerned for Catherine. I know, I know, but I like the romance potential there. It was like on 24, I liked all the action, but at the end of the day I liked him caring about Renee. *sigh* I miss them. Did you watch that show? And if so, did you see the new commercial Kiefer is in about cupcakes? I laughed so dang hard. (This is a long comment. Sorry! I'll stop now.)
