Word Count Wednesday

I saw this quote and it really fit me right now, so I'm including it in my post today.

"Do not lose hold of your dreams, or aspirations. For if you do, you may still exist, but cease to live." - Henry David Thoreau

I haven't done any writing for two weeks. I have a ton of excuses, but it really comes down to the fact that my brain has been elsewhere. And oddly, I can't seem to write when I can't engage my brain.

I know I'll get back to it. I have a lot of writing goals that I want to share with you next week that will babystep me to where I want to be as a writer. But for this week, my word count was again 0. Yet, writing is a part of me, the part that keeps me sane, and this week, I'm going to make it happen. (Am I implying that I'm not currently sane? You decide.)

How did you do?

I seem to be suffering, not from writer's block, but some kind of writer's depression. I just can't summon any enthusiasm for my story lately, and I don't have any ideas for anything else, either. Just at the moment, I can only see my huge weaknesses. So no progress here.

Oh you're definitely sane. I haven't been in much of a mood to write either. I had to really be pushed to enter a 500 word contest on Heather Arundel's blog (and it was a Christmas story). Once I started it was really easy and fun.

I'm impressed you've kept your blog up through the holidays. In fact, it should count toward your word count. I've plotted in my head but I haven't written anything this week since my family is all home from school and work. I might do editing later today. I might even pay bills....nah.

Zero . . .*sighs*

Melanie, just do what Stephen King (apparently) does when he gets depressed with his story: kill off half the characters. Then, see how the rest react to that. Should be very exciting! ;)

I got a (Man purse? Murse?) for Christmas, but it's very manly, it says "Ammo Container" on it! I think my AlphaSmart will fit nicely in it so I can resume writing. Soon, I hope.

Well, it's good to know that I am in esteemed company at least :-) All I've managed in weeks is a short story as a 'secret Santa' gift for a blogging friend.

I haven't had a chance to write either. I'll need to read earlier chapters to get back into the story. Are you going to make any New Year's writing resolutions?

Ok, first off, I love that quote! LOVE it!
Second, of course you'll get back to it. Christmas is busy. The season sucks the word count out of most of us. Especially if you've made family priority for the last two weeks, which I'm guessing you have.
I've had to take an entirely unplanned break from my writing as well, but I know it will be here when the kids are back in school. :)
