Word Count Wednesday & My First Review!

Well, with everything going on at my house, my word count this week was dismal. But I did manage to write another chapter for the sequel to Ribbon of Darkness, and submit a short piece to Anne Bradshaw, the author of True Miracles with Genealogy, so I’m excited about that. (Have you ever been to Anne’s blog? If you are interested in genealogy, you should click here and take a peek.)

I also got my first review on Ribbon of Darkness. Want to see it?

Here it is: “I was excited to read another of Julie Bellon's suspense filled books. I believe Ribbon of Darkness is her best book yet. You definitely won't want to put this book down or I should say won't be able to put this book down! This book keeps you guessing from the first page to the last. This book is definitely a winner!” Kathy L.

I was thrilled that she liked it and especially glad she wrote such a nice review. Thanks, Kathy!

How did you do with your word count this week?

Congratulations on such an enthusiastic review!

For my short story, I pretty much erased my entire first draft and started over from the beginning. I think I'm on page three now, maybe about 1500 words. I've also had some computer trouble lately, with it shutting itself off at odd hours, so that's my excuse for not doing as much as I could or should have.

It's truly a great review, Julie! You must be thrilled! I would be.

I'm at 64,500. I thinks that about 5K more than last week. At this pace I should finish by the end of July. Whoo hoot!

Reviews make us feel good. They validate (for us) our creativity. We find out someone enjoyed what we wrote. Congrats on a nice review, Julie.

I don't have much to say about word count. I usually don't monitor it that closely. I write in spurts as my creative juices direct.

I am taking some time away from fiction to read To The Rescue: Biography of Thomas S. Monson.

Melanie, WHY would you erase it all? Just revise it, never ERASE! I'm mourning your words that you've killed.

Debra, you are on FIRE! That's awesome.

Charlie, I've been wanting to read that biography. Let me know what you think of it.

Thanks, everyone. I have the best commenters around! :)

Julie, I erased it all because it was over 20 000 words and not yet finished, but my goal is to write a 5000 word story. I'm still not sure about the ending, but in any case, I thought it would just be easier to start again.

Somewhere I read that if you get stuck on your story, that there's something wrong in what you've already written, so you should go back, have a second look and revise until you can go forward again. I've tested that on at least one story (and perhaps others without consciously realizing it) and found it to be true, so when I found myself stuck on this story, I knew I had to do something similar.

On the other hand, maybe I should save this idea for a book and find something else that is more suitable for a short story.
