The Unbalanced Writer Mom

I feel tired.

Usually church on Sunday rejuvenates me and I come home ready to start the new week. But, instead, I just felt tired after church and still do.

I’ve been running around a lot this past weekend because three of my children got their wisdom teeth out and I’ve been trying to keep them comfortable. I thought it would be a really great idea to get it all done at once, and nurse them all back to health at the same time. But it turned out to be a horrible idea and I don’t recommend it at all. Three miserable people makes for a miserable mom because it’s so hard to see them suffering and in pain.

I think that’s only part of the reason I feel tired. I have so many things in my writing life that need attention, and several things in my personal life that have to take priority, so I feel out of balance. And I think that’s why I didn’t get my usual feelings of renewal at church. I need to find my balance again.

What sorts of things do you do to help you regain your balance when things are getting crazy in your life?

Uh, well, on occasion, when I feel my life has reached a point where I've lost control and I need to regain a sense of who I am, or what they use to say--I need to find "me," I talk to a family psychologist who happens to be our stake president's 2nd counselor. It helps . . .

I hope your children are feeling better, and that you'll feel better soon. Get some extra sleep.

I usually withdraw, either to sleep or to read, but then, I only have two kids, so it's easier for me. I know, it's not much help, sorry. Hope things get better for you soon!

Sometimes writing rejuvenates me!

Music and reading will often occupy a couple of the "worrying" tracks of my mind. When my husband is stressed (particularly just before we leave for some trip), he'll start cleaning. That helped when I was in college, but I wouldn't recommend it as therapeutic to a full-time mom!

One word: massage. If there is a Massage Envy near you, you can get a great one for pretty cheap. Or reward yourself with something you love for 1)raising 8 children, which is a hard job, and 2)still loving 3 of those children after nursing them for a week. You deserve it.

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement everyone. I really needed that today! Just knowing people care helps a lot---and a nice massage, bubble bath, and a piece of chocolate cake. Who knew?

Tomorrow will be better, right? :)
