Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada!
Part of the reason I went to Canada last week was because my grandmother, Thelma Chalifoux, was honored with her own stamp! She was a trailblazer who worked hard to give the Metis people a voice and a purpose in claiming their identity. The presentation of her stamp included a fiddler, Red River jigging, and some beautiful tributes before the unveiling. I was so privileged to be there, and to be able to wear a beautiful Metis shawl while my daughter wore the Metis sash.
I'm so grateful for my grandmother's legacy!
