I have been looking forward to Karen Tuft's new book, Kit and Elizabeth, and it was worth the wait! This one tells the story of Elizabeth who appears in The Earl's Betrothal (And The Earl's Betrothal is on sale right now for only $2.99! That's a steal! You can get your copy of that book here)
Elizabeth has horrible parents who don't care at all about Elizabeth's happiness, they just want her to marry Lord Halford or his brother. When Elizabeth can't force the man to marry her, things go from bad to worse since her parents blame her for everything. Thankfully, the Earl of Cantwell, affectionately known as Kit, sees a glimpse of Elizabeth's true character and works to help her out of the situation she finds herself in. But will Elizabeth have the courage to truly reach for her chance at a happily-ever-after?
This is such a tender story of a woman who finally gets to discover who she is and what she wants in life. Her journey is a highlight of the book, but her blossoming romance with Kit kept me turning pages. I love the tenderness, the humor, and how Kit brought out the best in Elizabeth. Lady Walmsley is also a bright spot in the book, providing a nice contrast to the proper Elizabeth. There were so many adorable and memorable scenes with the older woman! The cast of characters is very well done and Ms. Tuft really captures the setting and time period that will make the reader feel like they are there experiencing it all. And the ending was sigh-worthy---everything I hoped for.
Kit and Elizabeth is a wonderful addition to all of Karen Tuft's romances and this one is definitely going on my keeper shelf!

Lady Elizabeth Spaulding’s world has fallen apart. Despite living her entire life to please her demanding parents, the Duke and Duchess of Marwood, she has little to show for it. After Elizabeth’s second failed betrothal, her father’s debts and appalling acts of retaliation force him to flee the country, consigning Elizabeth and her bitter mother to a life of poverty and exile. But Elizabeth’s fortunes change one day when an elderly acquaintance makes her an offer she can’t refuse.
Lady Walmsley, widowed and childless, is in need of a lady’s companion—and who better than the lovely Lady Elizabeth? Determined to rescue Elizabeth from her dreary life in the country, Lady Walmsley secures the help of Kit, the dashing Earl of Cantwell, in her quest. But the young woman they find is a ghost of the charming girl they once knew. Taken in by Lady Walmsley, and with Kit’s enthusiastic encouragement, Elizabeth finds herself pushed further and further from her empty solitude as she discovers the joy of truly living. Now, for the first time in her life, she must decide for herself who she is and if she deserves to be loved.
