Word Count Wednesday

Well, despite all my best intentions, my word count this week was dismal. I still haven't finished my work in progress, (but I thought of another chapter I could add) and I sort of started another writing project that I shouldn't have. But at least starting that project gave me some word count about 1500 words). And it's so new and bright and shiny it seems easier to draft that one than slog with the manuscript I've been working on for months.

Sad, but true.

I don't think I'm stuck in writers' block per se, but I think I am hoping that this new shiny project will translate into the motivation to finish the one I need to finish. Cross your fingers for me.

How did you do this week?

I have an idea for a character and a situation. I've written down a few notes. I haven't come up with a plot yet, but I'm encouraged that my mind is working again, even if it is stiff with rust. :-)

Good luck on becoming motivated to finish your older project, and good luck on the new one, too!

I haven't written anything. I've just been focusing on surviving the A to Z challenge.

I haven't written anything on my "bright and shiny" new story I've started outlining. And I didn't put away my finished manuscript for two weeks, either. Instead, I gave it to two (non-writing) readers willing to give me their critiques. One is a school teacher and dear old friend whose opinion I respect immensely, and another is a woman who was outed by Jolene Perry as someone who devours words as fast as I eat chocolate. I see this being ready to query within the next two weeks. (fingers crossed)

I don't see my word count next week being any better. I'm going to an out-of-town wedding tomorrow and won't be able to get to my computer through the weekend. Sigh. . .I'm going to have internet withdrawals, I just know it.

So . . . this week I haven't written anything but emails and blog posts. If you count those, Julie, then your word count is much, much higher!

I think for some people, it would be good to have several irons in the fire. Personally, I have 2 manuscripts in the works (completely different genres, audiences) and 2 more in the dream-idea state as future projects. If I get frustrated with one, I can always switch gears and work on another.

Hypothetically speaking, of course. I haven't actually written anything on any of them in over 6 months. (I can still think about them, though, and come up with ideas.)

Sounds like everyone's getting good ideas.

My count was around 3000.

I have a shiny new idea, too, and even a pretty good outline for it. I feel like I need to do more research before writing, though. Hopefully the idea will survive the research!

Thanks, Melanie!

Michael, I don't know what that is. I think a trip to your blog is in order!

Debra, I hear you on internet withdrawals. It's been spring break at our house and my computer time has been severely limited!

Jon, that's what I'm afraid of is that I'll just keep coming up with ideas. I need to buckle down. *sigh*

Rebecca, you're doing so good! Congrats.

T, isn't it funny how research really can kill an idea. Good luck with yours!
