Answer This Question and You Could WIN!

I am SO excited about this prize. Jen Geigle Johnson has graciously offered a copy of her brand new novel, A Torn Allegiance! It looks so good!

In the book, the heroine is asked to spy on someone she loves. My question to you is: have you ever eavesdropped or spied on someone? Could you do it if you were asked to? Why or why not? Tell me in the comments, then your name will be put into the hat and you could be drawn as the winner. Easy peasy!

Here is the back copy of A Torn Allegiance. I can't wait to read this one!

Peace is tenuous in the small kingdom of Oldenburg, and the looming threat of invasion from Napoleon weighs heavily on the royal family. Their country's best chance for safety lies in strengthening their alliance with the English. So it is that Prince Hayes Wilhelm finds himself returning to England, where he hopes a prominent duke can help him protect his country.

Lady Elsie longs to make a difference in the world, but spying was not quite what she had in mind. So when her father, the Duke of Shelby, approaches her about keeping a close eye on the visiting crown prince of Oldenburg, she reluctantly agrees. But the outspoken young woman did not anticipate finding in Hayes a man who shares--and respects--her progressive ideas. Their mutual attraction is undeniable, but Elsie cannot forget her charge to spy on the man who is quickly stealing her heart. With the threat of war looming ever closer, Elsie and Hayes must consider carefully whom to trust--before their secrets tear them apart.

  1. I have eavesdropped. I think I could be a spy…maybe. I wouldn’t be very good if I was asked to spy on someone I know well because all the ding dong comments I would make would not be easily talked around. Haha. But if it’s someone I don’t know well or even someone I would never have to interact with-then yep. I’d probably be able to do it-short term. At the end of the say, however, I would not choose to be a spy if I didn’t have to.

  2. I wouldn’t mind spying on someone, but I would definitely get caught. I’m not very stealthy. One time my daughter had a boy over and I wanted to take a pic without him knowing. So I made sure it was on silent (no clicks). When the time was right I snapped it. Oops!! I forgot to turn off the flash. I was so BUSTED!!! lol 😂

  5. I don’t think I could spy on someone if I knew it could bring them harm or sadness, if it was to protect someone I probably could. I have eavesdropped before but not intentionally

  6. Yes I have eavesdropped when I was younger. And I have spied on someone before. But nothing nefarious. It would depend on why I was being asked to do it. I find I usually do these things unintentionally.

  7. I’m constantly eavesdropping on random people in public places...too curious about the people around me. Does that count? 😅 I think I would be a terrible spy as I’m a horrible liar and not very quiet or sneaky in general.

  8. My favorite place to eavesdrop is on an airplane. I’ve heard some interesting conversations in the row behind me.

  15. Yes, I have eavesdropped before and I could spy on someone very easily and without notice. Sometimes when you eavesdrop you find out the truth and yes sometimes it hurts but I don't know about you but I would want to know versus living a lie.

  16. I eavesdrop all the time. I would make a terrible spy, though. I’m too loyal to turn on my friends and the deception would eat at me until I gave myself up. But I guess I could spy on someone I didn’t personally know, haha.

  17. Yes, I have eavesdropped, when I was younger... but I don’t do it anymore, though I have been tempted many times. I don’t think I’d make a good spy 🕵️‍♀️ 😬

  19. I have eavesdropped, but I don't think that I would make a good spy. I've been told that my face is very expressive. I guess if someone's life were at stake if I didn't spy, I would certainly give it my best effort.

  20. I've unintentionally eavesdropped. With proper training, I could be a spy. I stay in the background quite well.

  21. I haven't spied on anyone. I think I could but I would prefer for it to be a stranger.

    Thanks for the chance.

  22. Lol - I eavesdrop on my kids all the time!! How else am I gonna know if there's anything they're hiding from me?? :)

  23. Yes I've eavesdropped when I alot younger, more agile and get around better. If you live by the saying that goes something like it's always good to keep your enemies close so you know what they're doing
Book sounds like a great read. Would love to read and review it in print format

  25. I can read lips so sometimes I don’t even have to be close to know what is being said. It has been helpful in some situations, and could be harmful if not kept in check. I only read if there is something important to be understood never to hurt or be in business that isn’t mine.

  26. I haven't purposely eavesdropping since I was a kid. I suppose if it were for a really good reason I could spy on someone, but I would be afraid of getting caught.

  27. I have done it, but not always meaning to. I was a custodian in a library for 20 years and I heard lots of things. Not sure I could do it now, though because I'm getting hard of hearing.

  29. I have eavesdropped, of course. I don’t think you can help but eavesdrop when you hear a comment that pricks your interest. As for me being a spy... if it was for good intentions I’d try and would probably be an okay one. I’d probably get caught if I had to lie or do some snooping.

  32. When I was a child, I would ease drop on adult conversations. I am not so sure that I could do that now. It would be interesting to try.

  33. I did too often as a kid! Remember the birthday month, day, date Head, Nose, Mouth pattern? Yeah, all my dates fall under nosey. But I would not be very successful now. I don't keep a straight face well, nor do I come up with great stories or explanations on the spot, and I probably don't have as great of hearing anymore anyway.

  34. I’ve definitely eavesdropped in my life. Not always on purpose. Sometimes just because I’ve been in the right place at the right time…or rather wrong place at the right time. 🤔
I’m pretty good at being sneaky and seeing little details so maybe I’d make a good spy. But I’m not sure I would want to be. Lol. I’ve had some investigative work that I’ve done at work which can be pretty fun and entertaining. 🤣

  37. I might've eavesdropped...unintentionally but I don't think I could do it if asked - I wouldn't want someone to do it to me.

  38. When I was a kid I remember getting out of bed and eavesdropping on my parents and their friends talking. I wanted to be an adult so bad! Nowadays, I'm not sure I could eavesdrop because I'd be so afraid of being caught!

  39. I have both eves dropped and spied on people, usually it is research for a gift or something similar. I would do it now if it was for a good cause and I trusted whoever I had to give the information to. It would have to be a very specific circumstance basically.

  45. Oh, I could definitely spy (to a certain extent), on someone, but only if it was for a good or necessary cause. I have had to do sleuthing in my days, but luckily not in a very, very long time!

  47. I eavesdrop all the time, too. I just can't help it! People's lives are interesting! If I had to become some kind of spy, though, I'm pretty sure I am not stealthy enough and I'd get caught!

  48. I have eavesdropped, especially in public places. I love to listen in and watch, but it would be hard to do if I HAD to do it.

  49. I'm sort of surprised by how many of you have eavesdropped in the past! But sometimes it can't be helped, right? :) I love it. Thank you all for sharing!
